Which heat source saves the most?
No uniform answer. Where a natural-gas pipeline exists, gas is usually cheapest; where surrounding agricultural/forestry residues exist, biomass pellets have an edge; coal has the lowest unit price but high regulatory risk. The key is local availability and full-lifecycle cost.
Remote areas with no pipeline — what then?
Choose diesel or biomass pellets. Diesel is bought anywhere and starts on demand; if the area has stable pellet supply and you're willing to invest in a feeding system, biomass pellets have better long-term cost.
Can coal still be used?
New projects should be cautious. Although coal has low heat cost, emissions and dust regulation are tightening in many countries, and it needs coal storage and dust removal, raising O&M burden; long-term, clean energy is the safer bet.
