Does flat-bottom discharge always require manual sweeping?
Not necessarily. Flat-bottom silos usually use a sweeping machine (scraper / screw) to discharge from the central outlet, with residual parts still needing manual sweeping; hopper-bottom silos rely on gravity flow and basically need no sweeping.
Why is hopper-bottom unit cost higher?
The cone structure uses more steel and demands higher foundation load concentration, raising foundation cost; the premium buys faster discharge, no residue and suitability for high-frequency turnover.
Which to choose for poor-flow wet grain?
Prefer hopper-bottom. Gravity flow reduces arching and sweeping trouble; if storage is very large and budget limited, a flat-bottom with stronger sweeping equipment also works, but with higher operating labor.
